My Review
Harper's Little Spitfire by Angel Steel is most definitely 18+ and it is not meant for anyone who is easily offended by erotica.

It's never easy for me to review erotica because I always wonder what my family and friends will think when they see what I've been reading.  I'm sure I turn fifty shades of red as I'm writing the review and thinking about the different scenes.  But I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review so I have to be honest and try not to think about who will be reading this.

There were times when I didn't want to put it down.  I was so  wrapped up in the story and just really wanted to see what was going to happen next.  Now don't be getting any ideas.  There was actually a story here and it wasn't just all sex for the sake of sex.  I'm not a fan of those erotica books. I want a story.

I enjoyed the characters and even though I don't personally get the attraction of multiple partners at the same time, especially from the same family, I wasn't offended by it either.  It was a scenario I'd never read before, so that made it a little interesting, but still a little weird too.

Overall, I enjoyed this read, but I do have to admit that there were some things that I felt were left unanswered, but maybe they'll be answered in a future book....assuming there is one.  I'm hoping there is one and that it wasn't that I just missed something.  For instance, why exactly was Mac acting like such a jerk?  And why did Kaidence keep disappearing all the time?

The epilogue also really confused me.  To me, it wasn't really an epilogue but more like an excerpt from the next book...which is why I suspect this might be the beginning of a series.

This was a good 4 star for me right up until the end, when I was left with even more questions not knowing if I was ever going to get answers.  So for that reason, I've had to drop my rating to a 3.5.  I do hope to read more from Angel Steel as I did enjoy the overall story.

(Fri. FEb. 21) Tricks by Cambria Hebert

Synopsis
Love can play tricks on your heart… After serving several years in the United States Marine Corps, Sergeant Tucker Patton decides to hang up his uniform and go to work at a private investigative firm owned by his buddy. His boxes are packed and he’s got one foot out the door when a phone call changes everything.
Instead of going to North Carolina, he heads to New York City to literally step into the life of his twin brother, who died under suspicious circumstances. But pretending to be someone else isn’t easy.
Especially when the person you’re supposed to be is wanted dead. Not only that, but he’s going from being blissfully single to living with his brother’s woman. An uptight, no-nonsense lawyer.
Charlotte Rose Carter doesn’t have time for fun and games. She graduated with honors and made all the right moves fresh out of college to jumpstart her career as a successful young lawyer. She even snagged the most eligible bachelor in New York City’s corporate world.
So what if her and Max’s relationship isn’t burning up the sheets? So what if their life doesn't read like a chapter from a sizzling romance novel? This is the real world, and in the real world that stuff is just fantasy.
Until it isn’t.
Suddenly, just the slightest touch or a single glance from Max has her heart doing somersaults. Suddenly, the lackluster relationship begins to spark, and Charlotte finds herself tied in a knot of desire.
But she has no idea about the tricks being played right under her perky little nose.

Excerpt
Chapter 1 - Tucker
My mouth felt like it was packed with cotton. You know that dry but slightly sticky feeling? My tongue moved and it brushed against the roof of my mouth, and the cotton came with it.
I grunted and opened my eyes, only to immediately shut them again. I wasn’t ready for morning. Shit, how much did I drink last night? My body was still heavy with sleep, my limbs not wanting to cooperate.
One of my arms was flung wide and I pulled it in to rub a hand over my sleepy face, hoping it would wake me up a little more. I knew I needed to get up… I just couldn’t think of the reason.
Something shifted beside me and I felt the covers lift and drop. The soft sound of footsteps reached my ears. It wasn’t a something. It was a someone.
I went home with someone last night.
Opening my eyes again, I glanced to my left in time to see a woman wearing nothing but a pink thong step into the adjoining bathroom and quietly close the door. Well, now I remembered the reason I went home with her.
Her ass was luscious.
Vague memories of last night filtered through my hazy, beer-soaked memory of skin against skin and a low seductive laugh. What was her name again? Veronica? Violet? Shit, I hadn’t a clue.
Tossing away the covers, I swung my legs over the side of the mattress and looked down. I was buck-ass naked. I looked around for my clothes, which were lying in a pile near the door of the bedroom.
Must have been in a hurry to get naked. I smirked. I was always in a hurry to get naked. Especially when I was with a woman with an ass like that.
I glanced back at the closed bathroom door as the toilet flushed and the tap water turned on. That was my cue to leave. I had on my boxers and jeans before the door opened.
Rushing out the door with shirt in hand seemed a little immature, so I turned. And, man, did I get an eyeful. There was no way in hell her boobs were real. They were too perfect. Large round, creamy globes sat high atop her chest. They gave way to a flat stomach with a light-reflecting stud in her bellybutton. The pink thong was still in place but left little to imagination, and her long, tan legs stretched all the way to the floor.
Her hair was dark, her features exotic, and her lips were full.
Even drunk, I had great taste.
I motioned with my chin, a little what’s up gesture, and draped my T-shirt over my shoulder.
“Leaving so soon?” she asked, padding across the carpeting toward me.
I didn’t even pretend to not look at her chest. Shit, this had been a one-night stand. She could think I was a dog all she wanted. Hell, she’d be right.
‘Course, she clearly wasn’t the type of girl to be offended by my wandering eyes. She walked right up to me, wound her arms around my bare waist, and pressed those perfect tits right up against my chest. Then she rubbed around like she was a cat and I was her scratching pole.
“Don’t you want to stay for breakfast?” she purred.
“Much as I’d like to, I can’t. Got somewhere to be.”
The woman whose name might or might not be Veronica pulled back and sashayed her ass across the room to a wooden nightstand by the bed. She bent at the waist, giving me the perfect view of said bottom as she scrawled something on a piece of paper.
I considered staying longer, but if I did that, she’d think this wasn’t just a one-night stand. Girls were complicated like that. If our night stretched into morning, they got ideas. Ideas that maybe they would be the one to capture the guy no one else could. They would read something more into morning sex than the sex that occurred late at night when both our tongues tasted of beer.
I might sleep around, I might like a variety of ladies, but I never gave false hope where there was none. I might be a dog, but I wasn’t an ass.
Sweet cheeks (I had to call her something) swayed her hips back across the room and held out a scrap of paper to me. “Call me,” she said, flipping her hair behind her shoulder.
I glanced at her chest one more time, then stuffed the piece of paper in the front pocket of my jeans.
She leaned up and pressed her lips to mine, slipping her tongue between. I kissed her back quickly and then slowly pulled away. Reaching around, I palmed her ass. “Thanks for last night,” I said and walked out of her bedroom without even looking back.
By the front door, I found my shoes and leather jacket and quickly finished dressing before stepping out into the cold morning air. I wasn’t going to miss this cold. I was actually looking forward to moving on, trying something new.
A thin layer of frost covered the windshield on my truck. Instead of getting out and scraping it, I blasted the heat and let the engine idle, letting it melt on its own. While I waited, I pulled out the already crumpled piece of paper I was just given. Smoothing it out, I looked down, my eyes skimming over the number I was never going to call to look for her name.
I laughed and crumpled the paper back up and tossed in on the floor of the truck.
Rachel.
Damn. I hadn’t even been close.

My Review:  5 stars!  Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, you will fall in love with Tucker.  Cambria Hebert has created so many characters that I have fallen in love with, and Tucker is definitely the latest.  The story is infused with suspense and intrigue and moments that will take your breath away.  If you are not reading Cambria Hebert, what is wrong with you?

COVER REVEAL: Tempting Rowan by Micalea Smeltzer

I’m drowning in the numbness. It’s pulling me under and I can’t see the surface. It’s easier to pretend I can’t feel. And the longer you pretend, the easier it is to believe. But he wants to save me. Only he can’t. I have to save myself…and I don’t know if I want to.
Rowan Sinclair’s life has been anything but easy. With an alcoholic mother and a sleazy stepfather, it’s been her responsibility to raise her younger siblings. At twenty-one she’s chained to a life she doesn’t want, but sees no other alternative. After all, what would happen to her brother and sister if she were to leave?
Trenton Wentworth sees the pain behind Rowan’s eyes. He wants nothing more than to make it disappear. To hold her. To love her. Except Rowan keeps everyone at a safe distance. But if there’s anyone that can break down the walls she’s built around herself, it’s Trent. So she avoids him at all costs. But Trent isn’t one to be easily evaded. He’s stubborn and determined. He’ll save this girl even if it costs him everything.

Love, lies, and deception.
That’s the name of the game when you’re Tempting Rowan.
RELEASE DATE: Late April 2014

EXCERPT
I bumbled towards the exit and in my haste one of my books slid from my arms and landed on the floor. I was tempted to leave it, glaring at the treacherous book, but a tan arm was already snaking out and picking it up. The person placed it back on the stack in my arms and I swallowed thickly, refusing to look up. But I felt his stare and I knew it was Trent standing before me. Slowly, I looked up and my hazel eyes connected with his. Looking at him was like taking a punch to the gut—leaving me breathless with a pain I couldn’t understand.
“Row,” he beamed, and the way he said my name made me squirm…and not in bad way. But oh how I wished I didn’t enjoy hearing my name leave his kissable lips.
I tucked a piece of light brown hair behind my ear. “Trenton,” I stared at his shoes. They were black motorcycle boots with heavy silver buckles. I wondered if they were real motorcycle boots or just designer ones.
“My face is up here,” he said in that deep husky voice with a slight chuckle.

I forced my head up and met his eyes. His dark hair was longer on top and shorter on the sides. His chin was dotted in a light dusting of stubble like he’d forgotten to shave this morning. Beneath his leather jacket he wore a navy t-shirt and his jeans looked well worn, even though I knew he could afford new ones.
“What are you doing here?” I stuttered, looking around for a means of escape. I needed to get away from him before I did something stupid…like give into the temptation of Trenton.
Brilliant question, Rowan. I scolded myself when I realized what I’d asked him. Sometimes, words just seemed to fly from my mouth without me thinking through what I was about to say. I really needed to work on that.
He chuckled, licking his lips. “It’s a library. There’s usually only one reason to be here.”
“Usually?” I questioned with a raised brow. What other reason would one have for coming to the library?
His smile widened. “Well,” he leaned towards me, his lips grazing the shell of my ear, “if you’re really quiet you can always have sex.” He pulled back, laughing at my wide-eyed expression. “I always did have a naughty librarian fantasy.” He looked me up and down and a blush stained my cheeks in what I was sure was an unflattering shade of red.

FREE for Valentine's Weekend - Feb. 14, 15 and 16

Have you read That's a Promise from Victoria Klahr?  If not, this is your chance to get it on your Kindle for FREE!  That's right, I said free.  For this weekend only, Feb. 14, 15 and 16.

Real love stories are not a fairytale.

Josie Sommers, a nerdy 24 year old school teacher, knows first-hand that the road to a so-called “happiness” is not easy. Hit again with another tragedy, Josie finds herself propositioned to give the person she used to love before he betrayed her another chance. Though she vowed to never be with him again, her resolve weakens when he invokes the same passion they had years earlier.

“One week, Jo. Then you can decide if we can’t try to make this work. You can decide if we were meant to be nothing but a memory.”

While they once had a loving relationship, it was also one filled with lies that tore them apart. Getting over those lies has been something that Josie was unwilling to do, until recently.

Forming friendships, losing a best friend, finding love, being betrayed, finding love again, lies, and broken promises are just some of the struggles that Josie faces. With so many hurdles, we know that Josie’s story is no fairytale.

That’s a promise.

This book is book one in a three part series, so not all matters are resolved at the end of the novel. It is also meant for ages 18+ due to yummy adult content ;)

Click to get it Free at Amazon.

Here is what I had to say about it:

Wow!  I'm not even sure what to say.  That was one crazy rollercoaster ride filled with emotion.  And while I started to guess a few things along the way, I was never certain and I definitely didn't see that ending.  So now I wonder if there will be more to the story.

(Fyi...there is another book in the series, so if the ending leaves you screaming WHAT!?!, don't worry, there is more and it will be available very, very soon!)

s pleasure worth the pain?

TEASER #1
We stand still and watch the doors that lead to Clara’s office fly open. Eleanor is dragged out in the grasp of Shads and Benson. Between them, they throw her against the wall, only backing away once she slumps to the ground, a winded mess. I feel my pulse race as Clara steps out, a riding crop in her hand. Eleanor begins to press against the wall, alarming panic smothering every inch of her body. She knows what’s coming and so do we. It’s confirmed as Brianna reaches for my hand, squeezing it tightly.
“Girls, this is to show you what will happen if you break rule number one.” She says no more, just raises the crop and lowers it onto the Eleanor’s body. There’s no care at what the brute force will do. Clara is out to punish with pain and as much of it as possible. The continual whooshing is followed by the slap onto Eleanor’s skin and I recoil in horror. If it wasn’t bad enough, Eleanor’s screams and howls of pain penetrate me and break me inch by inch.
As I close my eyes shut, I forget it’s Ellie there and think it’s me. I’m being punished for loving Jace, my most loyal client. Only when I open my eyes do I remember Eleanor is the one being tortured. It’s not me feeling the pain and it certainly is not me who is crying out in painful anguish.
I’m not the wrongdoer here, not right now, and a part of me is regrettably thankful.
With one final swift blow to Eleanor’s back, she collapses onto her palms and Clara stops. “Now,” Clara says as she turns back to us. She swats her palm with the blooded crop and gives all of us a choice look. “Remember this. One of our own defied the rules and I can see a few more of you sinning like that. I gave you six rules, girls, only six. It’s not a tall ask I give you, but I thought you need to see that I am deadly serious with punishment in this place. I don’t know what’s happened lately, but we haven’t had anything go wrong in nearly a year. But I plan to rectify this,” she speaks, but pauses, again swatting her palm. “I’m moving the next party closer.”
I look to Brianna, we know what this means, it means we’re getting a change up on our client lists. We look back and Clara is grinning like a Cheshire cat and we know what’s going on in her head is pure evil. We’ve gotten comfortable and The Boss wants us to squirm. We all begin to look between one another. We all know this means business.

TEASER #2
He smirks and kisses me again. “You look a mess.” His words set a rush of trepidation throughout me, but he chuckles, kissing me greedily, delaying me from leaving. “A beautiful mess.”
I giggle, push on him and begin to leave him behind. I stumble out of the cubicle, leaving Jace to fix himself out. I go over to the restroom’s mirrors and dare myself to just look at my own reflection. I gasp when I do. Fuck! I’m an absolute mess! My lipstick is now smeared, my hair is unravelling and I know I have to look for a quick fix. I make sure the rest of it looks okay and fix my makeup before I text one of the girls to come to my aid. I can’t let Clara see me like this and I need an excuse.
‘Jace Mason took me against a cubicle door’ just isn’t going to cut it!
My hands are shaking as I quickly attempt to rectify the mess I am in. I need to be back out there with the other girls quickly, but I can’t do that looking like this. I need to be mingling with the clients before Clara even so much as thinks I’ve done a disappearing act.
“Will this help?”
I look up and Jace is behind me. I inwardly sigh. He can’t be here. My heart rate accelerates as I wonder if one of the girls will catch him here with me or if I’ll make it out alive. I look to his hand and he’s holding up four of my hairpins. I look back at his reflection in the mirror and can’t help but smile.
“Did you really think I’d feed you back to the lion’s mouth with so much as a strand of hair out of place?” he asks me sarcastically and I know him. He looks after me beyond belief. He drops his hands and comes to stand beside me. As he does, I just turn to face him and allow him to fix my hair back up into the side bun. Once he is done he runs his hand down my jaw bone until his fingers are cupping my chin. “I knew you were going to look stunning tonight, Joely, but I never expected this. You blew my breath away.” He leans in, his lips just before mine as he finishes his statement. “Again.”
This time he kisses me with restraint, just giving me enough to seal his comment. When he leaves me this time I’m less flustered and I’m ready to take on what awaits on the other side of the door. I spend a few seconds just staring at myself, before I hurriedly look into my clutch bag for my makeup and touch it all up. I make sure my hair is pristine and that I don’t look freshly fucked.

BIO
I used to be just another Fanfiction writer! That was until one person showed real interest in my work. And then another, and then another, until I had this whole group of people reviewing like crazy and wanting original work from me. I’d spent years writing for free online, I didn’t believe I had it in me to publish something!
But I’m glad I did!! I never imagined pushing my work and striving to reach my ultimate. I never imagined I’d be the girl who started The Viper Rooms! But who am I to deny the inspiration when it hits?
I love writing, it’s a lifeline. I love creating a world that others fall into. I love having the control to make a whole new world. It’s like a dependency, an addictive one. It’s one of the things I’m extremely proud of.
As much as I complain, I love the mini dialogues that go on in my head, the plotlines that attack me when I least expect them to. The ones that jump to life at the most inappropriate times and drive me totally crazy!!

Two sisters with special gifts and an unbreakable bond ...

Cyena and Tyana were born to powerful parents who are among the ruling class on their planet. Their lives are pampered but isolated, constricted to the city walls in which they were born.

Fun loving with a rare but powerful mind power, Tyana is accustomed to being treated like a princess and using her influence to get anything she wants – including protecting her sister from the elders and students who look down on her. The opposite of Tyana in most ways, Cyena’s second-class mind skills make others view her as a blemish on the family bloodline. No one but her sister believes in her.

They don’t know that a war is brewing, until it erupts. A class war tears their perfect world a part, leaving them helpless, alone and worse –severed from one another.

Each girl will risk her life to find the other, and each will be challenged to hone her powers in order to survive environments unlike any they’ve ever experienced.

So what did I think?  Oh, you assume I read it.  Well, I did.  And it was great.  I've yet to read any for Julia's work (I know, what is wrong with me?), but I've loved everything from Lizzy and this was no exception.  The detail and the imagination to create this alternate universe astound and impress me.  They painted a picture of another world that makes you believe it really exists and they've seen it.  Hmm, maybe they have!

So I'm giving it 5 stars.  I wanted to give it 4 only because they're making me wait for the next one, but I can't really do that.  So 5 it is.

Blake or Seth: Promises, Promises series by Victoria Klahr

Love triangles.  Love them or hate them, many of our favorite books revolve around them these days.  We probably have Stephanie Meyer and the Twilight series to thank/blame for that.  Because suddenly all the talk was about which "Team" you were on.  Personally, I hate the team concept when it comes to characters in my favorite books.  So you'll notice that I never say that I'm Team A or Team B.  Why do I have to pick a team?  That doesn't mean I don't have an opinion on who should "get the girl."  And why is it that these love triangles always involve two guys vying for the affections of one girl.  Why is it one guy battling his inner turmoil over which girl to choose?  I guess that's a question for another day.

Recently, Victoria Klahr posed the question on her Facebook page about which team her readers are on...Seth or Blake.

If you have not read That's a Promise by Victoria Klahr, I urge you to stop reading this post because there will be LOTS of spoilers.  And by lots, I mean, I'll be giving away everything that we learned in book #1 of the series as I debate this very important topic.

(btw, it's only 99 cents, so you could always go buy it, read it and then come back to read this post.)

So seriously, if you haven't read the book, STOP READING RIGHT NOW!!!  I mean NOW!! This very minute.  Don't go any further.

If you are still reading, I assume that means you have read That's a Promise.  Either that or you're a rebel and you don't care that I'm going to ruin nearly the entire book for you.  Well, you go on with your bad self, but don't get made at mean when there are no surprises left.  I bet you were one of those kids who peeked at all their Christmas presents too, weren't you?  Well I don't have time to deal with your shenanigans, so let's get on to the great debate.

Most people are wondering who Josie will choose.  But really, do we get to choose who we love?  I think not.  The heart decides and our brains don't always agree.  So which organ do you listen to?

Seth
Josie and Seth have been best friends forever.  He was there for the her in her darkest hours.  He witnessed her rape and near death and it nearly killed him.  And he nearly killed the man responsible.  He blamed himself for not being there to stop it and he swore he wouldn't let her get hurt like that again.  And sometime during their friendship, something clicked and he felt something more.  But he never told her.  So many could say that she belongs with Seth.  But wait, Seth broke his promise and he was the one who hurt her, and broke her heart.

But before we do that, a little about Blake.

Blake
Josie meets Blake and they have an instant connection and they quickly fall in love.  But Blake has a secret.  He doesn't know it at first, but he soon learns that Josie is the girl that his father raped andI nearly killed.  He tried to distance himself from her, but he couldn't stop the way he felt about her.  And he is drawn back to her.  He truly loves her and while he knows that he should tell her the ugly truth, he just can't bring himself to do it.

Without rehashing the entire story, I'll break it down as to who I think Josie should be with.  As for who her heart belongs to, I can't really say.  So this is based only on what we know so far.  On how each has treated her.  And of course, it is completely my own opinion.

I won't leave you hanging anymore.  I think it's Blake.  And now I'll tell you why.

Sure, Blake didn't tell Josie about his father. Someone else did.  But he wasn't doing that to hurt her.  He loved her. He wanted to protect her and while keeping it secret wasn't the best plan, honestly, it is what most people would do.  How many times have you chosen not to tell someone something because you know that they'll be hurt when they find out?

And yes, he left when he found out about the abortion, but that was how just about any guy would react if they found out that the woman they loved had aborted their baby without even talking to them first.

Now Seth.  He's supposed to be her best friend.  He asked her about using the photos in the showing when she was drunk.  Ok, sure, that might have been forgivable.  He goes on to say how much he loves her but then he goes and calls her a "callous and heartless bitch."  Who does that?  And then he leaves without looking back.

So maybe it's just me, but I have a really hard time forgiving a guy who calls any woman a "callous and heartless bitch", especially when it's a woman they supposedly love.

When it comes right down to it, Blake never did anything to intentionally hurt her.  Seth's name calling is unforgiveable to me.

But the choice may not even be Josie's to make.  First we need to find out if Blake can forgive Josie for aborting his child.  And if he can forgive, will he fight for her?

I guess we'll find out when the next book comes out.
