JDRF Auction Item #8 - The Braddock Siblings series by Jessica Wilde

Leverage:
Adventure. That's all Aislinn 'Ash' Brannock wanted in her life. Her dad and two brothers - all cops - got to see it all, but their over-protectiveness made her feel like she had been locked away in a tower with three fire breathing dragons watching her every move. Yes, it was that bad. The only silver lining? Lucas Shade. Her brothers' best friend growing up, and apparently the only man she will ever love because let's face it, none of the others even come close. After an unfortunate mistake lands her back in her father's home, her world is turned upside down and Lucas is there in a tightly wrapped package of serious with a big red bow on top. Life just got interesting, but it comes with a price, one she never wanted to pay.

Detective Lucas Shade never had a real family, but the Brannocks took him in as one of their own and he never took it for granted. Ash was a big reason for why he stuck around, but in order to save himself the beating of a lifetime from her two older brothers, he kept his feelings for her hidden. When the case he has been working on for months takes a turn, Ash could become the leverage the bad guys have been waiting for, but keeping her invisible may destroy everything Lucas has worked so hard for. Good thing Ash is the only person he would give up everything to protect.

For readers 18+ due to language and sexual situations.

Conned:Conall Brannock takes his job seriously. He doesn't get attached, he doesn't ask questions, and he protects his family at all costs. Nothing will change that. Not even the sweet, green eyed witness that just burst into his life and shifted his world. He has one job to do; protect Emily until she can testify. He can't let his interest in her get in the way, but the more he finds out about her, the more he can't help but wonder how the beautiful broken girl got into this mess in the first place. And the longer he takes to learn the truth, the deeper he falls for her.

Emily Dawson has a job to do. Stay off the grid, testify, and hopefully get her brother back. He's all she has left of the family she struggled so hard to hold together and she would do anything to keep him safe. Even if it means she has put herself in harm's way or that she has conned everyone into believing she saw something she didn't. She knows where her loyalties lie, but her stoic yet gentle protector and his crazy family makes her question everything she once knew.

Loyalty can be one sided.
Family isn't always blood.
And honesty can destroy everything she has come to love.

For readers 18+ due to strong language and sexual content.

Missing:
There are two things in this life that Gus Brannock truly loves; his family and his job. His family is growing and he wants what his brother and sister have before the job he's worked so hard for takes its toll. The woman he's got his eye on, however, isn't interested in being with a man who risks his life every day. When the unexpected friendship with the sassy red head he used to hate turns into something Gus just doesn't want to live without, he will do whatever it takes to have her. The hazards of his job as a detective for missing children may end up proving to be too much, but there's a reason Aiden was brought into his life and nothing will stand in his way to keep her there.

Aiden Murphy used to hate the handsome jerk next door until a surprising discovery spun her world in another direction. Her life of devotion to her sister and niece has been her biggest strength with the exception of her art. That is, until Gus turns out to be the one thing that has been missing from that life all along. Aiden must decide if the unknown is worth the risk of loving the dedicated detective or if being pulled into his world is more than she can handle. When Gus becomes the only way for her to keep the people she loves most safe, will she understand why he treasures her untried strength or will she let her fear of the unknown decide for her?

For readers 18+ due to strong language and sexual situations.

JDRF Auction Item #7 - autographed copy of DIVINITY AND THE PYTHON by Bonnie Randall

The driver’s window—perfectly intact when she and Andrew had arrived this morning—was now a shattered chrysanthemum of broken glass, and a weapon, a hammer, hung like a calling card from the frame. She grabbed her cell. Their quarry was clearly on the loose. Finger on speed dial, she reached with her free hand for the hammer.

The Python is the hottest nightclub in freezing Edmonton: all skin, no substance, and definitely no spirituality. Bartender Shaynie Gavin knows better—all things have a soul, and on an evening she’s come to call Hellnight, The Python left a dark stain on hers. Now Shaynie’s moving into another place that’s more than what it seems—Divinity, the old morgue she’s refurbished into a Tarot lounge. With all her passion focused on launching the venture, Shaynie is rattled when Divinity appears to orchestrate a connection between her and superstitious hockey star Cameron Weste.

Shaynie’s reaction is nothing compared to The Python’s. Vandalism, violence, an omniscient stalker— the parallels to her lost, bloody Hellnight in the club are unmistakable. But equally undeniable is the protection emanating from her old morgue.

All things have a soul, and Divinity’s seems aligned with Shaynie’s own—but whose is twinned with the Python? As Shaynie starts hunting her stalker, it’s clear only one soul will survive.

A fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat, supernatural mystery, "Divinity and The Python" grips the reader from the first page to the shattering climax.

Praise for "Divinity and The Python":

"This book was completely beyond anything I have ever read before."

" This was a fabulous, well paced storyline and unique plot . . . Can't wait for another book from this talented author!"

"Beautifully written with evocative images, I offer this warning – expect tears - in a good way."

Olivia Bannon walked away.

Twice.

When 17-year-old Livy meets Ethan, she can’t deny their inexplicable connection. Lost in his dark, intense eyes and smile-to-die-for, Livy never thought she would feel like this. It almost makes her want to break her childhood vow, but Livy knows happily ever after is just an illusion, and despite her heart wanting Ethan, her head is telling her to stick with the plan. The one that doesn’t include falling in love. Period.

Eight years later, Livy finds herself back in her hometown. After the way she left things, the last time they were together, Livy is anxious about seeing Ethan again. It shouldn’t come as a shock to discover he has finally moved on—but it hurts. A lot. Accepting that she will never get the chance to put things right isn’t easy, but it’s not until life comes crashing down around her that Livy realizes what she could’ve had. JDRF Auction Item #1: Autographed Copy of FINDING OLIVIA by Micalea Smeltzer

How far would you go to find yourself?

That’s the question that’s been haunting Olivia Owens for years.

All Olivia has ever wanted to do is live and make mistakes, but her preacher father has made that impossible. She believes that her years at college will be her ticket into the real world and her chance to be wild and spontaneous.

But she’s never been able to do it on her own.

At the start of her sophomore year, she only has four things crossed off her Live List, but that’s all about to change thanks to a chance encounter with Trace Wentworth. She’s about to learn that there’s more to this reformed bad boy than just his looks and panty dropping smile.

Trace can’t explain what it is that draws him to Olivia.
All he knows is that he wants to get to know the girl with the sad smile but sparkle in her eyes.

When she tells him about her list, he knows that this is his chance to get to know Olivia Owens. Trace is determined to show Olivia that she can do all the things she’s ever wanted to do. So, he begins to help her cross things off her list, even the more outlandish requests.

What happens along the way is more than what Olivia or Trace ever expected.

Love, laughs, and a list.

Micales Smeltzer is a bestselling Young and New Adult author from Winchester, Virginia. She’s always working on her next book, and when she has spare time she loves to read and spend time with her family.

I discovered Micalea because I judged her book by it's cover - this book in fact.  I loved it and I was familiar with her cover model, Kimberly Tallman.  And when I read Finding Olivia, I fell in love with her writing too.

When I announced my fundraiser plans, Micalea immediately offered to donate.  I feel so lucky to have her in my life.

excerpt
Happiness had been absent from my emotions for a long time. On the surface, I wore a smile and never showed the struggles I dealt with on the inside. The fact of the matter was, I’d been hurt. I was damaged goods, and I hadn’t believed I was the kind of girl worthy of love—of being saved.

But I was beginning to see that everyone is worth saving. It was strangely appropriate that the man I’d let break me, was the one to put me back together. I didn’t know what tomorrow, or next week, or even the following month might hold for us, and I wasn’t going to let myself overthink it. I was going to live in the moment.

Jude lay on his back, staring up at the clear blue sky. “Tatum?”

“Yeah,” I replied when he didn’t continue immediately.

“Can I hold your hand, or are you going to hit me for that?”

I turned my head and laughed at his serious expression. “I think that would be alright, and I really am sorry about that. It was an automatic reaction.”

“So…” He started, a slow grin appearing on his face. “Your first response to a guy kissing you, is to slap him? Interesting.”

He was never going to let me live this down. I really hadn’t meant to hit him. He knew that, but he also enjoyed my pain. Douche. “Only one guy.”

“I’m the only guy to ever kiss you?” He brightened.

“No!” I immediately shut him down. “I’ve kissed other guys, but you’re the only one that I…you know…”

“Slapped?” He supplied. “Should I be honored that you like to hit me?” He winked.

“You make me sound like I’m abusive,” I pouted, feeling ashamed of myself and my behavior.

“Nah,” he propped his head up on his hand and stared down at me. “You’re just a tough girl.”

“Tough?” I wrinkled my nose. “That doesn’t sound very appealing.”

“Oh, trust me,” his brown eyes sparkled, “it is. It’s hot as hell actually. But you want to know a secret, Tate?” I nodded and he lowered his head so his mouth was pressed against my ear. My body shuddered at the close proximity and the heavenly feel of his breath ghosting against my skin. “Even tough girls need saving.”

“Is that what you’re going to do Jude?” I quirked my head and squinted from the sun shining in my eyes. “Are you going to save me?”

“No,” he shook his head, his dark hair brushing my forehead. “You’re going to save yourself.”

He said the words with such surety that I couldn’t help but believe him. When I didn’t say anything he rolled onto his back and finally entwined our hands together. Peace flooded my body and I didn’t understand it. How could the man that had filled me with such torment not long ago, calm my body with a simple touch? It was mindboggling. I rolled my head slightly to the side, studying his profile—the elegant slope of his nose and the slant of his lips. I couldn’t believe I was thinking this, and he’d probably kill me if I said it out loud, but he was beautiful—inside and out. It was a shame that I was just now noticing it. I think a lot of people never saw what a magnificent person he was. He hid his true self behind cocky smiles and flirtatious come-ons.

 “You’re staring at me.”

“I’m not,” I hastily turned my head away.

“I felt your eyes,” he continued. “You were totally staring. It’s okay, look all you want. I know I’m quite the feast for your eyes.”

With my free hand I smacked his stomach. My God he had abs of steel. I think I hurt my hand more than I did any damage to him. Not that I was really trying to hurt him. Although, I thought he needed a nice blow to his ego. I squealed as he rolled on top of me and I found my arms pinned above me, pushed into the sand. His tongue slowly snaked out between his plump lips to moisten their surface. I thought he was going to kiss me, but he didn’t. I was learning that Jude rarely did what I expected of him. In many ways he was a mystery. His dark eyes grew serious as he stared down at me and I found myself squirming as his hips dug into mine. I felt my body responding to the position—muscles tightening, pulse racing, and an overwhelming ache building inside me.

“Are you sure about this?” He breathed softly. There was a vulnerability in his eyes that I’d only ever seen when he was around his grandpa. “About us? Or am I going to wake up in the morning and find that you’re gone?”

“You really think I’d run away?” I replied, wiggling my hips, which caused him to hiss sharply between his teeth.

“Honestly? It wouldn’t surprise me. You’re afraid of your own feelings,” he lowered his head, brushing his nose against my neck. My eyes closed and a pleased hum resounded in my throat. There was still a voice in my head telling me to push him away, but I was done listening to it. “It’s okay to be scared, Tate,” he nipped my earlobe, the heat of his body wrapping around mine like a blanket. “I’m scared too.”

“You are?” I breathed, my voice so soft the wind nearly carried it away. I felt him nod, his hair tickling my neck.

“I’ve never felt this way about anyone, but you,” he confessed. “It’s always been you.”

Roc n' Read's Review:
Love, love, LOVE! I have loved every Trace + Olivia book, but Saving Tatum is my favorite. Micalea writes characters that are so easy to love. I can't tell you how she does it exactly, but she has this amazing way of writing them so that you feel like they are friends. I'm sad to know this is the end of the series, but I don't think she could have written it better.

BLOG TOUR: Trashy by Cambria Hebert

Synopsis
She’s trying to move on, but the past won’t let her go.

I fell in love once.

It was a big mistake, but the biggest mistake of all was staying with him.

He pushed me around. He cheated and treated me like trash.

I don’t feel sorry for myself, because I let him.

But no more.

I moved out. I'm saving my stripper's salary for an education that will get me somewhere better.

But breaking the chains of a shitty past isn’t easy. He says I owe him. He says we aren’t done. I don’t care what he says anymore.

I do care about Adam.

But my history tells me I’m not the best judge of men. And the fact Adam’s been married four times tells me he probably isn’t a safe choice.

I need safe. I need better. I need out.

If the past is any indication of my future, getting out isn’t going to be easy.

Excerpt
“Kiss me.”

He didn’t need to be told twice. In seconds he was standing to his full impressive height and towed me up along with him. Adam released my hand and cupped my face. His hands engulfed my jaw but he was so gentle. His eyes swept over me like I was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen and around us sparks flew like snowflakes in a blizzard.

Instead of crushing his mouth to mine like I expected, like I wanted, he took his time. His heated gaze dropped to my lips, then back to my eyes. His fingers spasmed against my head and tightened ever so slightly.

Slowly, slowly he lowered his head, cupping my jaw so that I could do nothing but hold still and wait for him to arrive.

The anticipation of his lips on mine was almost my undoing. Everything going on inside me head floated away. I became aware of the moment, of the quietness in the room, of the way my body swayed wanting to get closer.

Adam’s lips brushed over mine, a gentle caress, once, twice and then a third time. He lifted his head just slightly and stared down at me, his thumb climbed up and caressed my lower lip.

He smiled softly and then joined our lips once more.

My Review:
For the longest time, Tease has been the one book from the Take It Off series that has really stuck with me and is the one I have always said is my favorite.  I can't put my finger on why exactly.  It's not like I've ever worked at a strip club or had a hot surfer guy fall for me. But there was just something about it that I loved.  Now don't get me wrong, I've loved all of the books in the series, but Tease is just "the one" for me.  And now we have Trashy, which is actually a spin-off of Tease.  We were first introduced to Roxie and Adam in Tease and now Trashy is their story.  And I loved it so much!  It brought back some memories from Tease and now I just want to read them both again - back to back!  Double the pleasure! I love all of these characters - Harlow and Cam, Roxie and Adam.  Is it strange that I want to work in the club with them?

Cambria Hebert is the author of the young adult paranormal Heven and Hell series, the new adult Death Escorts series, and the new adult Take it Off series. She loves a caramel latte, hates math and is afraid of chickens (yes, chickens). She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and children (both human and furry) where she is plotting her next book. An interview with Cambria Hebert

Roc n’ Read:  Trashy is now your 10th book in the Take It Off Series.  I'm sure that they you love them all, but if you had to pick, which one holds that extra special place in your heart?

Cambria Hebert:  This is hard, I do love them all. I really truly do. But I think TEXT will probably always be the one to hold that special place in my heart. Trashy (and Adam) come in close after Text.

Roc n’ Read:  I know you are addicted to coffee, but there's a bean shortage and you can not find a coffee anywhere - what else is going to help you get through the day?

Cambria Hebert:  Sitting and crying into a pillow.
 Okay, that’s not practical.
Hot tea! (Black with all natural sweetner)

Roc n’ Read:  Trashy takes place in the same strip club as Tease.  What led you to write about a strip club and those who work there?

Cambria Hebert:  I’m not really sure, ha ha. I’ve never even been inside a strip club (honest truth). Maybe that’s why, since I’d never been this was sort of my way of experiencing it. Course I made it all up so who knows if its accurate. Also, I think the world of a strip club, a bartender, a club owner, etc… its real. People work those jobs every day.

Roc n’ Read:  I'm sure that you put little parts of yourself in every book, but which female lead in the Take It Off series would you say is most like you?

Cambria Hebert:  Oh that’s hard. I do tend to put little parts of myself in every book I write, maybe it’s my way of connecting with each character. I would say the one most like me would probably be Honor from Text (because she’s a writer and likes to bake and run) or maybe Roxie in Trashy.

Roc n’ Read:  The Indie author world depends heavily on word-of-mouth and bloggers, so I'm going to throw you into my role for a minute.  Tell me what you read this year that you would recommend to all my followers.

Cambria Hebert:  This is tough because I honestly don’t read as much as I would like. I don’t read when I’m writing so I haven’t read that much this year. Mostly, I read almost all of Amber Garza’s books. I really enjoyed Break Free and Winning Me Over of hers. I also really enjoyed ARV-3 by Cameo Renae. I enjoyed Allure by Lacey Weatherford and anything by Jennifer Armentrout (favorite of hers for me is Frigid). I also really liked Bite and Release by debut author Cory Cyr.  And even though I haven’t had the chance to catch up on the last few releases of the series I really like the Keatyn Chronicles by Jillian Dodd. Hopefully I will have more time to read soon! lol.
